The required standard are Height 157, Weight 45 Kgs, Eye sight 6/6 & 6/9 without glasses. The post is Assistant Commandant of Technical Branch; the education qualification should be Degree in Naval Architecture/ Mechanical/ Electrical/ Electronics/ Marine/ Design Engineering. The age should be 21-30 years (5 years relaxation for SC/ST and 3 years for OBC). The required standard are Height 157 cm Weight Proportionate to Height, Eye sight 6/12 and 6/36. These examples are just an insight of the position in the Indian Coast Guard.

Indian Coast Guard regularly gives advertisement in all the leading national newspapers in both regional languages as well as in English. Among the applicants a set of shortlisted candidates are called for Preliminary Selection (PSB). The Preliminary selection is conducted according to the choice of center indicated in the application. The most probable centers are Mumbai, Chennai, Calcutta and Delhi.

Those who successfully pass the written The examination are called for the Physical Fitness Test. It includes running for short distance and long distance or marathons. It also includes pushups, long jump and high jump, short put, disc throw etc according to different categories.

The PSB mainly consists of Mental Ability Test as well as interview. The candidates who successfully qualify PSB are called for medical examination. During the Medical examination, the candidate’s health and medical condition is checked and those candidates who are free from any physical disabilities and diseases are declared to be medically fit.

In most case of the selection procedures, the duration taken from the date of notification to the final entry may be for a period of 6 to 8 months. Only in certain cases, it may extend to one year.

The pay structure is different for all posts in the Indian Coast Guard. The pay structure starts from Rs 4500 and it can go maximum according to the place of posting. Before becoming eligible for the permanent work in the Indian Coast Guard, one has to undergo basic training between 8 to 20 weeks in various training institutes all over India.
