Why should I hire you from the outside when I could promote someone from within?

This question needs a perfect answer because you have to convince the interviewer if you are a fresher means by telling that you have the right qualification for the said position. If they hire you then your contribution towards the concern will definitely benefit out of it.

If you are an experienced person then you can convince the interviewer by telling that you have the sufficient experience in the right field and the needed qualifications for the said position. If they hire you then your contribution toward the concern will definitely benefit out of it.

It is better to tell your strengths, experience in the same field, related projects done and your willingness to take up the responsibility and duties of the said position. You’re hiring to the department or team will add strength to the task etc.

Never try to give a negative answer such as the company may lose a bright candidate, the department will lack a good candidate etc in order make them hire you or self boost of yourself. This may send a wrong signal for the entire interview process and end up in not selected for the said position.
