What are your greatest weaknesses?

What are your greatest weaknesses?

Like two sides of a coin, everybody have their strengths and weakness.  Most people have some awareness of them.  Interviewers have a tendency to check how the candidate responds when asking about weakness. People have a belief that strengths are good and the weaknesses are bad, it should be eliminated. It is good to realize that sometimes a best strength can have some grey side and greatest weakness can be the supreme strength.

At times strength covers up as a weakness. A person’s greatest weakness better be strength in concealing outfit. Everyone has some grey side and an honest answer about weakness can give a good impression.

Example: “”I sometimes push my people too hard. I like to work with a sense of urgency and everyone is not always on the same wavelength.”

Drawback:  This approach is widely used and better than admitting a defect and is crystal clear to any experienced interviewer.

Best answer: When a candidate forced to confess his weakness,  assure the interviewer that nothing would stand in the way of performing in this position and convey the best strengths with full confidence.

Nobody is perfect but as per your requirements, I think I can be an outstanding employee in your organization.  I know that when a company hires people they mainly look for the qualifications and the motivation to perform the job well.  Everything in my credentials shows that I have the qualifications and the desire to attain excellence in whatever I take on. So now I can say with full confidence and honesty that there is nothing stops me to perform the job with high efficiency.

Alternate strategy (if you don’t yet know enough about the position to talk about such a perfect fit)

The answer must be honest instead of confessing weakness, explain the likes and dislikes giving stress to the likes that matches up with the most important requirement for success in the position and give less important to the dislikes.

It is the smartness of the candidate to convince the interviewer that he is the best candidate. It is important to communicate to the interviewer in a factual way. Most of the interviewers prefer to ask about the strengths and qualifications.  Explain and give additional information that is relevant to the specific job. After all during an interview, a candidate is trying to selling himself.
